Remodel and new build plumbing in La Vergne

A good share of the homes in La Vergne were built between the 1970s and the early 2000s, and their owners are now updating bathrooms and kitchens. Often a remodel means moving a sink, converting a tub to a walk-in shower, or adding a bathroom. We do the plumbing for all of it.

Tub to shower conversions

This is one of the most common remodels we see in houses from this era. It usually means a new valve, a new drain at the right location and a floor that is level and solid. In a crawlspace house the work is straightforward. On a slab, we may have to cut concrete to move the drain, and we will talk about that before you commit.

Projects we plumb

  • Bathroom remodels and new bathrooms
  • Kitchen remodels with new sinks, dishwashers or pot fillers
  • Additions and garage conversions
  • Laundry rooms
  • New construction rough-in and finish

Updating a house from the Firestone era

Many La Vergne houses date from the years right after the plant opened, and a typical project is a kitchen or bathroom update that was overdue about a decade ago. These houses are often simple to work in. The structure is plain, the lines are accessible from a crawlspace or attic, and changing a layout does not require anything exotic.

The one thing to watch is the drain. Old drain lines can be too small or poorly sloped for a modern fixture layout, and it is better to learn that before the new vanity goes in.

Things worth deciding early in a La Vergne remodel

  • Whether to keep or move the tub
  • Where the new vanity drain will tie in
  • Whether the washer stays put
  • Whether to upgrade shutoff valves while the walls are open

More remodel questions

Is a remodel a good time to replace supply lines?

Yes. The walls are open, and the cost of access is already paid.

Can you do just the plumbing and let my contractor handle the rest?

Yes. That is how most of our remodel work goes.

How we schedule

  1. Walk through

We look at the space and talk through what you want.

  2. Rough-in

Lines are run and tested before drywall.

  3. Finish

Fixtures are set and everything is tested.

Remodel questions

How early should I call?

As early as possible, before demolition if you can. Plumbing decisions affect the layout, and it is cheaper to change a plan than a finished wall.

Do you work with my contractor?

Yes. We coordinate with general contractors and tile setters so the schedule works for everyone.

Moving the laundry

Many La Vergne houses have a washer and dryer in a closet or a garage corner, and owners want them in a proper laundry room near the bedrooms. Moving one is mostly a drain and a supply job. The washer needs hot and cold lines, a standpipe with a trap that drains to the sewer, and a vent. The dryer needs a vent to the outside, which is a different trade, but we plan with it.

On a slab, a new drain means cutting concrete or running the line through a wall and joining the stack. In a crawlspace house, it is a simpler run below the floor. Either way, a laundry room with a floor drain and a pan under the washer is cheap insurance against a flooded room.

Schedules that work around a working household

Most remodels in La Vergne happen while people are still living in the house. That is fine, as long as the plumbing schedule respects it. We try to keep one bathroom usable at all times, and we tell you ahead of time which days the water will be off. A kitchen remodel is harder, since cooking and cleaning both rely on the sink. A temporary setup in the laundry room or garage keeps the household going.
